Stunned

A flury of action and I feel a bit like someone just spun my world around and upside down. Part of it was good, amazing; part of it was terrible.
Another trip to Salt Spring. Early wake ups, long ferry rides. Rewalking our path and remembering how wonderful it is to have found ourselves where we are. Glass calm water glowing deep blue at dawn and winding country roads with the bright moon still hanging in the sky.
Back in Deep Cove for a weekend as usual. But unusual. Soaking up the sun atop the Brigadoon. Glass calm morning waters again, but on my own this time. Walking through familiar places and breakfast in the park in dappled shade. Creaking wooden boards under my feet on familiar docks with familiar faces. I had the feeling I was getting a preview of the summer to come.
News today changes everything.

Damn

I mean that in two ways. Primarily, damn in the profound sense of being awstruck with what I saw yesterday. As we left the dock, in the bliss of a sunny break, we could see the rain coming, but we could not have guessed just exactly what it would bring with it: a mini squal that you would have missed if you'd turned your back for a minute. As the rain came down, the sun continued to shine and the waves churned the water up, the most beautiful rainbow I've ever seen arched in the sky and we could see it touch down in the water at both ends!
And damn in the sense that I was without a camera to record it all!

Anticipating Soon

I pulled out a box from my closet, pulled out some old but loved summer clothes, packed up the winter sweaters.
I walked barefoot on the warm dry wood of familiar docks with a pink floppy brimmed hat shading my eyes.
I should me more tired than I am but I'm fueled by the excitement of spring's arrival.
Three more days. one paper. four exams.
Then those sweet summer days. Oh how I just can't wait.
